On Thursday, August 7, 147 interns will graduate from the American Association of Advertising Agencies Multicultural Advertising Intern Program (MAIP). The ceremony, which will be held at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City, recognizes the accomplishments of these interns who have spent the past 10 weeks working at 4A's member advertising agencies across the United States.
David Prince, the 4A’s newly appointed senior vice president, director of training, education and development, will deliver the keynote address. Prince oversees the 4A's training and education programs. Prior to joining the 4A's, he worked for both general market and multicultural agencies, such as Lintas New York, Publicis and J. Curtis & Company, before launching his own multicultural marketing firm.
During the ceremony, participants from the 24 MAIP internship cities will give presentations based on their summer internship experience. Interns were placed at 4A's member agencies in Atlanta; Birmingham, MI; Boston; Chicago; Cincinnati; Dearborn, MI; Durham, NC; Greenville, SC; Irvine, CA; Kansas City, MO; Los Angeles; McLean, VA; Minneapolis; New York; North Hollywood, CA; Philadelphia; Pittsburgh; Richmond, VA; Rochester, NY; San Antonio, TX; San Francisco; Sausalito, CA; St. Louis, MO; and Warren, MI.
In addition, winners of the Clarence Leroy Holte MAIP Intern of the Year, ANA Multicultural Excellence Scholarship, and the MAIP Service awards will be announced.
The graduation ceremony will be followed by the 5th annual MAIP Diversity Career Fair, which provides MAIP graduates and MAIP alumni the opportunity to meet with 4A's-member agencies and portfolio schools.
Deutsch, Digitas, DraftFCB, JWT and Y&R are sponsors of both the graduation and career fair.
The 4A's Multicultural Advertising Intern Program was established in 1973 to encourage African-American, Asian-American, Latino, Native-American, multicultural and multiethnic college students to consider advertising as a career. Each year, approximately 150 qualified undergraduate and graduate students of color are selected for a 10-week paid summer internship at AAAA member agencies across the country.
