Media Matters | The DTV Transition: Keeping the Ad Community in the Loop

The AAAA, in collaboration with the Television Bureau of Advertising (TVB), the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) and the Association of National Advertisers (ANA), recently announced a new initiative to assist you in making the DTV transition as easy and beneficial as possible.

In just eight months, the way that broadcast television signals is delivered to homes across America will changetransforming the way we view television for the better. As mandated by Congress, television broadcasters will begin to broadcast exclusively in digital on February 17, 2009.

This exciting transition to digital television (DTV) will result in numerous benefits to consumers, including crystal-clear pictures and sound and more programs and servicesall for free. A full-scale consumer-focused campaign is now underway to educate Americans about the digital transition and to ensure that no television household is left behind.

Digital television will also create new opportunities on a variety of platforms for advertisers.  It is our goal to make sure that the advertising community is kept informed of DTV transition developments and its impact on your business and clients. Working together, the TVB, NAB, ANA, and the 4A’s will reach out to national and local agencies and advertisers about the switch to digital.

This initiative, called “The DTV Transition: Keeping the Ad Community in the Loop,” will utilize e-mail notifications, webcasts, a speakers bureau, luncheons, one-on-one meetings and our Web sites.  We intend to be a resource for you and to help educate members of the advertising community on the significance of this change in television.

As we rapidly approach the February 17, 2009 transition, please let us know how we can help prepare you and your clients for the switch to digital television. This is a historic event for the broadcasting industry, and we look forward to working with you to do all we can to make the DTV transition a success.
