Marty Orzio Joins Gotham as Chief Creative Officer

Renowned industry creative leader Marty Orzio has taken the role of Chief Creative Officer for New York-based agency, Gotham Inc (www.gothaminc.com). Most recently, Marty was Chief Creative Officer of BBDO Chicago, which under his lead became Energy BBDO. There, he landed and led creative duties for clients such as Wrigleys, Dial, Jim Beam and United Way. Energy BBDO saw growth of more than 50 percent during the four-plus years that Marty was at the helm, helping to turn the shop into an award-winning industry player.

Marty’s career spans over 20 years in advertising, first making a name for himself at Lowe & Partners, where he spent 12 years and became best known for his work on the Mercedes-Benz account, which won virtually every industry award, including two Lions at Cannes, including a gold. Following Lowe, Marty was Partner and Executive Creative Director at Merkley Newman Harty, where he continued to grow the Mercedes-Benz brand, while also managing hard-hitting brands including: BMW Motorcycles, Forbes, Partnership for a Drug-Free America and Lipitor. Throughout his tenure, Marty has received recognition across the award circuit, with accolades ranging from the aforementioned Cannes, to the Effies, CA, the Clios, D&AD and the One Show.

“Gotham is the opportunity I have been looking for—the chance to help build and grow, as other agencies grow fearful and slow down during these tough times,” explains Orzio. “To me, a great agency means you have to have one creative culture, where no discipline—be it interactive, account service, or planning—exists in a vacuum. Joining Peter, and the unbelievable team he has assembled, is the opportunity to not only function collaboratively, but also to nurture and grow a culture that breeds excellent work and excellent people.”

Marty joins Gotham in the midst of great transformation for the 15-year old agency, which six months ago named Peter McGuinness to the post of Chairman & CEO. Under his lead, Gotham has boosted its client roster, landing AOR status for Bausch & Lomb Global, Sony Ericsson, Hennessy Black, and Remington, overhauled its image and positioning with a new Web site and digs, and also has made significant hires, among them, a Chief Marketing Officer, a Director of Strategic Planning and a Director of Account Management. Marty marks the next major step for the evolving agency, which under his creative leadership, will look to enhance its capabilities and offerings across the board.

“Marty joining the team significantly helps solidify Gotham’s evolution. Marty’s passion is pure; he’s all about the work in what ever form it manifests. I want Gotham to be, in fact and perception, the NYC-based shop that solves problems, creates opportunities and does great work. It’s really nomore complicated than that,” remarks McGuinness.
